School Crisis Assistance Teams - S.C.A.T.

APSCAT MISSION

To provide a team of trained crisis interveners who are available twenty-four hours a day to respond, at the request of school officials and in conjunction with Volunteer Organization Active in Disasters (VOAD), to assist the school community in dealing with trauma (natural or manmade) that interrupts and severely impacts the everyday life of the school and/or community and to provide ongoing training and in-service to all School Crisis Team members and those wishing to become members in all Adams and Pike county school districts.

WHAT IS SCAT?

Unfortunately there have been numerous alarming incidences of school violence across the country. In an effort to improve Illinois School Safety, Attorney General Jim Ryan has established an advisory Group for School Safety and Firearms.

The SCAT Project was developed with the intent to promote a collective effort in assisting Illinois public school during and after times of crisis. Forty-two (42) Regional SCATS formed a statewide network to be utilized by Illinois Schools for assistance during and following a violent or traumatic incident.

Members of each regional team have had extensive training with NOVA (National Organization for Victims Assistance).

The Adams/Pike SCAT members are prepared to respond to school crises throughout Adams and Pike Counties.

This Response Team can help your students and staff within the first 72 hours of a tragedy.
